Enabling Residential Development

To advise on the rehabilitation of a damaged landscape around the dilapidated Twyford Abbey. The site falls within Metropolitan Open Land and has a blanket TPO applied to it - factors that made identifying opportunities for sensitive enabling development (required to fund the restoration of the Abbey) more challenging.

Careful map regression gave us a thorough understanding of the evolution of the landscape around Twyford Abbey. Using this information we identified areas of higher historic significance, as well as areas able to accommodate enabling development without compromising the landscape setting of the mansion. Views to and from the south side of the mansion were to be retained and the parkland restored through the reintroduction of grazing by sheep.
