We have successfully helped secure planning permission for the infrastructure project at Ightham Mote. The project will involve relocating the parking on site so the historic walled garden that is currently used can be reinstated for visitors to enjoy. A sustainably built new visitor reception and shop designed by Reed Watts Architects will create a welcoming, accessible space for all.
“This is truly a transformational moment in time, in the proud 700-year history of Ightham Mote. It is a long-awaited opportunity to complete the enhancement of the setting which began when the Trust rescued the house with its £10million, 20-year conservation project. By providing the facilities such a very special place merits we will set the property up for years to come.
It has been a lesson in resilience and persistence for sure! Particularly the importance of translating our passion for this place into an extensive, personal and very thorough, unstinting stakeholder strategy, especially when dealing with the sensitivities of the AONB and Green Belt. Not for the faint hearted. Massive thanks are due to the team.”
